Chloride (Acid) Zinc Plating (ASTM B633)

Chloride, or acid, zinc plating delivers the brightest as-plated zinc finish and high plating efficiency — and it succeeds on substrates that give alkaline zinc trouble, including cast iron, castings, and high-carbon or hardened steel. Gleco plates chloride zinc to ASTM B633 with RoHS-compliant trivalent chromates at our AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified, ITAR Registered Texas plants.

Steel components finished on our chloride (acid) zinc line with a yellow chromate. Chloride zinc gives the brightest zinc deposit and works well on castings and high-carbon steel.
FAQ

Chloride Zinc FAQ

Why choose chloride (acid) zinc?
Acid chloride zinc plates fast and produces the brightest as-plated finish. It also deposits well on substrates that alkaline zinc struggles with, such as cast iron, castings, and high-carbon or hardened steel.
Can you plate castings and high-carbon steel?
Yes. High plating efficiency and good coverage on difficult substrates make chloride zinc the go-to for castings, cast iron, and hardened or high-carbon steel parts.
What standard and finishes apply?
Chloride zinc is plated to ASTM B633 with clear, yellow/iridescent, and black trivalent chromate options. See our zinc overview for the full type, service-condition, and salt-spray table.
Is chloride zinc RoHS compliant?
Yes, with trivalent passivates (ASTM B633 Types III, V, VI). Hexavalent chromate is used only where a controlling specification requires it.
