Zinc Plating in Dallas, TX (ASTM B633)

Gleco plates zinc to ASTM B633 with clear, yellow and black trivalent chromates, on rack and barrel lines about 20 miles northeast of downtown Dallas. AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 registered, ITAR registered — a combination most shops taking zinc work in this market cannot offer.

What we run

Zinc Plating for Dallas Manufacturers

Zinc is the workhorse of corrosion protection on steel, and most of what makes a zinc job succeed or fail is decided before the parts arrive — the chromate you specify, the thickness class, whether the part needs an embrittlement bake, and whether it should run rack or barrel.

Rack and barrel, both in house

Barrel for volume on small hardware, rack where geometry, contact points or appearance matter. We will tell you which one your part wants rather than running whatever line is open.

Trivalent chromates

Clear, yellow and black trivalent conversion coatings. Hexavalent chrome is out of most supply chains now, and the trivalent systems we run are what RoHS-driven prints call for.

Embrittlement relief bake

High-strength steel plated or acid cleaned needs a bake per ASTM B850 — the table starts around 145 ksi or 31 HRC. You have to identify it on the purchase order; we cannot infer tensile strength from a drawing.

Zinc-nickel when zinc is not enough

Where the corrosion requirement outruns plain zinc, zinc-nickel to AMS 2417 is the usual answer and the common cadmium replacement. Same building, same order.

Getting parts here

About 20 Miles From Downtown Dallas

Our Rowlett plant is roughly 20 miles northeast of downtown, 25 to 35 minutes up I-30 outside rush hour. Most Dallas customers drive parts out; the rest ship on carriers already running this corridor daily. We are open Monday through Friday.

Worth knowing before you send a first order: every process carries a minimum lot charge and a minimum per line item, and a quoted unit price only applies once the order clears it. We state both on the quotation rather than in the fine print.

Questions

Dallas Zinc Plating Questions

How far is Gleco from Dallas?

About 20 miles northeast of downtown, in Rowlett — 25 to 35 minutes on I-30 outside rush hour. We also run a second plant in McAllen for Rio Grande Valley work.

Which chromate should I specify?

It depends what you need from it. Clear is the least conspicuous, yellow generally carries more corrosion life, black is chosen for appearance as often as performance. The governing numbers are in ASTM B633 by type and service condition class — our zinc plating page goes through them.

Do you bake for hydrogen embrittlement?

Yes, and it has to be called out. ASTM B850 sets the schedule and the duration scales with strength. Identify every part needing the bake on the purchase order along with the material condition and governing specification — baking also has to begin promptly after plating, so it is not something to add later.

Rack or barrel?

Barrel is cheaper and right for volume on small, robust parts, but expect contact marks, nesting and coating build-up in recesses. Rack costs more and gives you control over contact points and coverage. Send the part and the quantity and we will recommend one.

Can you plate and coat the same part?

Yes. Gleco Paint & Powder Coating is our coatings division, so a part that needs plating and then powder or CARC stays inside one company — one purchase order, one traceability chain, one certificate of conformance.
