What finishes do you provide for data center power hardware?
Silver and tin plating for busbars, power connectors, and high-current terminals; electroless and electrolytic nickel underplates; powder coating for racks, enclosures, and cabinets; and chem film for grounding and EMI surfaces — all under one AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
Do you plate busbars and high-current connectors?
Yes. Silver plating (QQ-S-365 / ASTM B700) gives the highest electrical and thermal conductivity of any metal for busbars and high-current power distribution, and we run it alongside tin and nickel for connectors and terminals.
What about power generation hardware?
We finish generator, turbine, and switchgear components with silver (anti-galling and high-temperature conductivity), electroless nickel and hardcoat anodize for wear, zinc-nickel for corrosion, and passivation for stainless — with the traceability and certification power programs require.
Why silver on a busbar rather than tin?

Silver has the lowest bulk resistivity of any metal, and unlike tin its surface film stays conductive, so a silvered joint holds its contact resistance as it ages and cycles instead of climbing. Tin is the cheaper and perfectly sound answer for lower-current, lower-temperature connections. The thickness classes and how to call them out are on silver and gold plating specifications.

What happens to plated joints at elevated temperature?

Silver holds its properties well past the point where tin softens and creeps under clamp load, which is why continuous-duty and high-current joints move to silver. On copper the part that matters is the nickel underplate: it blocks copper diffusing up into the silver, which is the mechanism behind long-term resistance rise on a hot joint. Give us the operating temperature and the duty cycle, not only the current rating.

Do you plate copper bar, and can copper itself be the finish?

We plate onto copper and copper-alloy bar routinely. Copper is offered only as an undercoat, never as a final finish, because a bare copper surface grows a resistive oxide that shows up as joint heating. Types of metal plating and finishing sets out what goes over it and why.

Bright, semi-bright or matte silver for switchgear contacts?

Hardness is the deciding factor. Bright silver is the hardest of the three and stands up to wipe and repeated insertion; semi-bright sits between; matte is softest and conforms under clamp load, which suits static bolted joints. Bright and semi-bright silver run at our McAllen plant. Specify hardness and thickness, not just “silver plate”.

How do we get grounding and EMI performance on an aluminum enclosure?

Anodize is an insulator, so a bonding surface cannot be anodized — it needs a conductive conversion coating, or a masked bare area where the bond strap lands. The conversion coating class that permits low contact resistance is set out on the MIL-DTL-5541 chem film specification page, and EMI shielding covers conductive coatings for enclosures and covers. Mark the bond areas on the drawing; they are the first thing missed.

Turbine and generator hardware — electroless nickel or hardcoat anodize?

The base metal decides. Electroless nickel goes on steel and stainless and deposits at uniform thickness on bores, internal passages and blind features that a rack process cannot reach evenly. Hardcoat anodize is aluminum-only, harder at the surface, and grows into the part as well as onto it, so a running fit has to be dimensioned for it; hardcoat runs at McAllen.
