Zinc-Nickel Plating in Dallas, TX (AMS 2417)

Zinc-nickel to AMS 2417 and ASTM B841 — the corrosion performance that replaces cadmium on a growing number of prints — plated about 20 miles northeast of downtown Dallas. AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 registered, ITAR registered.

What we run

Zinc-Nickel for Dallas Aerospace and Defense Work

Zinc-nickel exists because plain zinc runs out of corrosion life before some applications run out of service, and because cadmium is being engineered out of supply chains. It is the finish specified when the requirement is genuinely severe.

AMS 2417 and ASTM B841

The governing specifications for most zinc-nickel work. Call out the specification and class on the purchase order along with the chromate you need.

The cadmium replacement conversation

If your print still calls out cadmium, zinc-nickel is usually the first alternative evaluated. We run both, which means we can tell you honestly where the substitution works and where it does not.

Embrittlement relief

High-strength steel needs a bake per ASTM B850 — the table starts around 145 ksi or 31 HRC and the duration scales with strength. Identify it on the purchase order with the material condition and governing spec.

Rack and barrel

Both available. Geometry, quantity and appearance decide which; send the part and the volume and we will recommend one rather than running whatever line is free.

Getting parts here

About 20 Miles From Downtown Dallas

Roughly 25 to 35 minutes up I-30 from downtown Dallas. Zinc-nickel work often travels with paperwork attached, and where technical data is export controlled we handle it under access control — identify the control status in writing at the time of order.

Zinc-nickel is one of the finishes where the certification behind the shop actually matters. It is specified on aerospace and defense work far more often than on commercial work, and those prints usually carry approval requirements that a shop without AS9100D cannot satisfy.

Questions

Dallas Zinc-Nickel Questions

Can zinc-nickel replace cadmium on my print?

Often, and it is the most common first alternative evaluated. Whether it works depends on the specific requirement — corrosion life, lubricity, galvanic compatibility and the approval path all matter. Send the print and we will tell you what we think, including when the answer is no. Our zinc-nickel page covers the detail.

How does it compare to plain zinc?

Substantially better corrosion performance, at higher cost. If plain zinc meets the requirement, specify plain zinc. Zinc-nickel is for when it does not.

Do you bake for hydrogen embrittlement?

Yes, per ASTM B850 where the material condition requires it. Baking has to begin promptly after plating, so identify the requirement on the purchase order rather than adding it later.

What chromates are available?

Call out what the specification requires and we will confirm what we run. Trivalent systems are standard now across most supply chains.

Are you approved for defense work?

AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 registered, ITAR registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, DFARS compliant. Individual programs often carry their own approved-processor requirements, and we work through those directly rather than asking you to accept an equivalency.
