Bright Tin Plating

Bright tin is a lustrous, sub-micron-grain solderable finish for parts where appearance matters alongside solderability and corrosion protection. Gleco plates bright tin to ASTM B545, rack or barrel, at our AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified Texas plants.

Bright Tin FAQ

Bright tin vs. matte tin — which should I specify?

Bright tin is a cosmetic, sub-micron-grain finish chosen where appearance matters; matte tin is preferred for lead-free reflow and whisker-sensitive electronics. Both are solderable and RoHS compliant.

Is bright tin solderable?

Yes. Bright tin is solderable; for parts that see high-temperature lead-free reflow or strict whisker requirements, matte tin is usually the better choice.

Can you add a nickel underplate for whisker control?

Yes. A nickel underplate beneath tin is a standard whisker-mitigation step and we apply it in-house when your application calls for it.
