Matte Tin FAQ

Why choose matte tin for lead-free reflow?

Matte tin is brightener-free, so it holds up better through the higher temperatures of lead-free (250–260 °C) reflow soldering and is the preferred finish for whisker-sensitive, fine-pitch electronics.

Does matte tin reduce tin whisker risk?

Yes. Matte tin, especially over a nickel underplate, is a standard whisker-mitigation strategy for reliability-critical electronics. We define the full approach at contract review.

Is matte tin RoHS compliant?

Yes. Matte tin is pure tin with no lead, so it is RoHS compliant and fully solderable.
