Rowlett, Texas — 22 May 2024. Gleco Plating has been approved as a supplier to the Volvo and Mack Truck Powertrain division for zinc-nickel plating to Volvo STD 121-0006/Y400.
Approval followed a qualification programme that began in 2023, covering process capability, corrosion performance and quality-system review. The approval sits alongside Gleco’s ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D certifications and its selection as a Products Finishing Elite Top Shop for 2024.
Volvo STD 121-0006/Y400 governs zinc-nickel plating on powertrain components — parts that have to hold up under heat, road salt, vibration and long service intervals. The standard sets corrosion performance, coating thickness and process-control requirements, and an approved supplier has to demonstrate all three consistently, not once.
Zinc-nickel is the finish of choice for this work because a 12–15% nickel alloy deposit delivers materially better salt-spray performance than plain zinc at the same thickness, and does it without cadmium.
A heavy-truck OEM approval is not a marketing badge. It means an outside auditor has looked at the line, the lab, the documentation and the parts, and signed off. Customers outside the automotive world benefit from the same process discipline: the zinc-nickel line that runs Volvo work is the line that runs everyone else’s.
Gleco runs zinc-nickel to AMS 2417 and ASTM B841 as well, from both the Rowlett and McAllen plants.
