Gleco Plating is registered with the U.S. Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. Both Texas plants operate under an AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 quality system and are DFARS compliant.

If you are sourcing a finisher for hardware on the U.S. Munitions List, registration status is usually the first filter applied and the fastest way to shorten a supplier list. Here is what ours means in practice.

What ITAR Registration Is — and What It Is Not

ITAR registration is a statutory prerequisite, not a quality certification. Any U.S. manufacturer or exporter of defense articles or defense services is required to register with DDTC and renew annually.

There is no such thing as “ITAR certified.” No agency audits a company and issues an ITAR certificate. A supplier claiming certification is describing something that does not exist.

Two further distinctions worth being precise about. Registration does not by itself authorize export — it establishes eligibility to apply for licences and agreements; export of a defense article or of controlled technical data still requires the appropriate authorization. And registration says nothing about a supplier’s controls. It is a filing. What matters to a prime is how the supplier actually handles controlled hardware and technical data, which is the rest of this page.

How Controlled Work Is Handled

Everything stays in the United States. Both plants are U.S.-based and no processing is outsourced offshore. Parts do not cross a border to be finished and come back.

Controlled work is identified before it starts. ITAR-controlled hardware is flagged at contract review, marked, and access is restricted to authorized personnel under our written ITAR compliance program.

Technical data stays inside. Drawings, specifications and process data supplied with a controlled part are not forwarded outside the company.

Contract review happens before the first part is plated. If a drawing carries an export-control marking, a distribution statement, or a specification we need to clarify, we raise it up front. Discovering a problem after a lot has been processed serves nobody.

FAQ

ITAR FAQ

Are you ITAR registered?

Yes. Gleco Plating is registered with the U.S. Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, and the registration is renewed annually.

Is ITAR registration the same as being “ITAR certified”?

No. There is no ITAR certification. Registration is a required filing with DDTC for U.S. manufacturers and exporters of defense articles. Any supplier advertising itself as “ITAR certified” is describing something that does not exist.

Will you provide your DDTC registration code?

Yes, to qualified customers on request — on a purchase order or under NDA. We do not publish it, because a published registration code is trivially easy for someone else to quote as their own.

Do you handle controlled technical data?

Yes. Drawings, specifications and process data supplied with controlled hardware are handled as controlled technical data and are not forwarded outside the company.

Which plant should ITAR work go to?

Both plants handle controlled work. The right one depends on the process — cadmium, Type III hardcoat, gold and sulfamate nickel run at McAllen; alkaline zinc, citric passivation and dry film lubricant run at Rowlett. Send the drawing and we will route it.

Ready when you are

Not sure which finish your part needs?

Send the print and we’ll tell you. Quotes typically back within one business day, from either plant.
