Coastal Texas

Metal Finishing in Corpus Christi, TX

Plating, anodizing and passivation for Corpus Christi manufacturers, port work and coastal service equipment, run at our McAllen plant. AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 registered, ITAR registered.

Why coastal work is different

Finishing for Corpus Christi Manufacturers

Corpus Christi carries port and marine fabrication, refining and petrochemical support, wind energy components and a machine shop base that serves all three. Salt air changes the finishing question. A coating that lasts years inland can fail in months on the coast, and the difference is usually the process selection and the post-treatment rather than the thickness.

Corrosion performance you can specify

Zinc-nickel with the right post-treatment carries substantially more salt spray hours than standard zinc, and stainless that has been machined or welded usually needs passivation before it will behave like stainless again. We will tell you which applies to your part.

Salt spray testing to ASTM B117

We run neutral salt fog in our own chambers at both plants for process control. When your specification requires a certified result, we run it through an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory and supply the certificate with your parts.

Stainless passivation to specification

Nitric passivation at McAllen and citric at Rowlett, to ASTM A967 and AMS 2700, with the method and class your print calls out rather than whichever one is easier to run.

Certified, not just capable

AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 registered, ITAR registered and DFARS compliant. Every order ships with a Certificate of Conformance referencing the exact specification and revision.

Bilingual, on both sides of the desk

Our team works in English and Spanish, which matters when your engineers, buyers and drivers do too. Send the print in whichever language your team works in.

Logistics

South on US-77, Not North to Houston

The McAllen plant is a straight run south from Corpus Christi on US-77 and I-69E. For most Corpus shops that is a closer full-line finisher than Houston, and it avoids the congestion that turns a Houston round trip into a multi-day proposition. Consolidating releases into one run usually beats paying freight twice on every lot.

Not sure whether your part needs passivation, a heavier zinc-nickel, or a plated-then-coated stack for the environment it lives in? Send the print and the service condition and we will tell you what the specification actually requires.

Common questions

Corpus Christi Finishing Questions

What finish holds up best in salt air?

It depends on the substrate and the service condition, but for steel in a coastal environment zinc-nickel with the appropriate post-treatment generally outperforms standard zinc by a wide margin. For stainless, the answer is usually passivation done correctly rather than a coating at all. Send the print and we will make a specific recommendation.

Do you test salt spray in house?

We run ASTM B117 neutral salt fog in our own chambers at both plants for process control. Gleco is not an accredited testing laboratory, so when your specification requires a certified result we run it through an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab and supply the certificate with your parts.

Which finishes run at the McAllen plant?

Zinc and zinc-nickel, cadmium, electroless nickel, sulfamate nickel, bright nickel, chem film, Type II and Type III anodize, nitric passivation, bright tin, gold, matte and bright silver, and bright dip on copper and brass. Alkaline zinc, citric passivation, matte tin, dry film lube and zinc phosphate run at Rowlett.

Can you handle large or heavy parts?

Tell us the part envelope and weight when you send the print. Tank and rack capacity varies by process, and we would rather tell you up front that something will not fit than find out on the dock.

What lead time should I plan for?

It depends on the process, the lot size and whether the job needs outside testing. Send the print with your quantity and required date and you will get a real date.
