Metal Finishing in Harlingen, TX

Aerospace and defense finishing for Harlingen, run about forty minutes west at our McAllen plant. AS9100D registered, ITAR registered, DFARS compliant, with Type III hardcoat and cadmium run in the Valley.

Why Harlingen shops use us

Aerospace Finishing Without Leaving the Valley

Harlingen carries the Valley’s densest concentration of aviation work, and aviation prints do not leave much room for interpretation. They name a specification, a type, a class and often a revision, and they expect the finisher to hold all four and prove it. That is a different conversation from general job-shop plating.

Type III hardcoat, run in the Valley

Type III hardcoat anodizing to MIL-A-8625 runs at McAllen. It is the only Gleco plant that runs it, which means Harlingen aerospace work does not have to travel to North Texas for hardcoat.

Cadmium for legacy prints that still call it

Cadmium to AMS-QQ-P-416 runs at McAllen. Legacy aerospace and defense hardware still specifies it under narrow derogations, and we run it to the type and class on the drawing, with embrittlement relief where required.

The aerospace paperwork, properly

AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 registered, ITAR registered and DFARS compliant. Certificate of Conformance against the exact specification revision, backed by retained process records.

Chem film, anodize and the rest of the aluminum stack

MIL-DTL-5541 chem film in Class 1A and Class 3, hexavalent-free Type II where called for, and Type II sulfuric anodize, so masked dual-finish parts stay on one purchase order.

Logistics

Forty Minutes West of Harlingen

The McAllen plant is at 3800 W. Ursula Ave, roughly forty minutes west of Harlingen. For aerospace work the distance matters less than the alternative: the nearest certified finishers outside the Valley are in San Antonio, Houston or the Dallas–Fort Worth area, which turns a finishing operation into several days of transit each way plus the handling risk that comes with it.

Salt spray testing to a certified result is sourced from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory rather than performed in house. If your specification requires a certified test report, tell us at quote time so the lead time includes it.

Common questions

Harlingen Aerospace Finishing Questions

Do you hold AS9100D?

Yes. Both plants operate under an AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 registered quality system, and Gleco is ITAR registered and DFARS compliant.

Can you run Type III hardcoat anodizing?

Yes, at the McAllen plant, to MIL-A-8625. Type III is not run at Rowlett, so hardcoat work from the Valley stays in the Valley.

Do you still run cadmium plating?

Yes, to AMS-QQ-P-416 at McAllen, for legacy aerospace and defense prints that still specify it. Where a program allows a replacement, zinc-nickel to AMS 2417 is the usual substitute and we run that too.

How do you handle hydrogen embrittlement relief?

Where the specification and the part hardness require it, parts are baked to the governing specification and the bake is recorded against the order. Tell us the material condition and hardness on the print.

How far is the plant from Harlingen?

Roughly forty minutes west, at 3800 W. Ursula Ave in McAllen.
